Me too Layne! I was raised old school I guess. I have family that use the new international version. I don't know if it's right or wrong but I feel better reading the KJV. The BiBle has been translated so many times already and I am afraid it looses something each time. I know there are verse ommitted in the NIV. That concerns me.

Doc You can trust ALL versions of the Christain bible, yet dont go reading any mormon doctrines or things like that. Anything religion that offers you something TOO good to be true, don't believe it... "The Christian BIBLE offers something TOO good to be true!"Well the Christian faith is not a religion, it is a belief! So therefore you can believe it, cause you put your faith in it. There's a verse in the Bible about not changing the word's from the Scriptures and in my opinion Bibles such as the NIV do change the words.

KIng James Version is my choice but for some people it maybe somewhat challenging but one should pray for the "understanding" necessary with the reading and no matter what version your choose, God will give you the guidance to understand His word and not those wrote on paper. The Word is God and only He can show you the true meaning and once you have that understanding, no matter which version you choose to read, that meaning will not change. My belief anyway...

"The first edition of the King James Bible, also called the ‘Authorized Version,’ was composed by a committee of English scholars between 1607 and 1611. The first copy of the King James Bible known to have been brought into the colonies was carried by John Winthrop to Massachusetts in 1630. Gradually the King James Bible supplanted the Geneva Bible and achieved such a monopoly of the affections of the English-speaking peoples that a scholar in 1936 complained that many ‘seemed to think that the King James Version is the original Bible which God handed down out of heaven, all done up in English by the Lord himself.’" You have to understand that God inspired or God breathed the first writings as Hebrew and Greek and it was just authorized to be translated by King James so the people could have a bible in there own home to read and interpret for there self, not just the Priest (pastor) at the church who would only understand and give translation to what they thought was correct which the bible at that time was wrote in Latin, very few could read latin at that time. Scholars have come to find that the NIV version is the most accurate version (translation) to date. In saying all that I agree with Jesusfan don't just say you only believe something with out studying out to get the real truth and praying to hear from God and receiving true revelation. When you say King James Only You Place People In Bondage Just The Opposite of What King James Was Trying To Get People Out Of! Because we can interpert a word different does not alwas mean that you have givin or taken away from the scriptures, alwas go back the the Greek and Hebrew and study it out for your own self.

I dont think I would say that NIV cahnged the words of the other bibles. NIV was just a modernized version of it.
Also the first BIBLE was not King James. It was called the Bishops Bible and that was atleast a hundred years before KJV.

Very good point, I just have to stat that the NKJV is also a good translation. Not only is it legible to more people, unlike the KJV or Bishops translations, but it is also very accurate.

Again, I think no matter the version, the knowledge and understanding comes from the same place-- God. I pray that any lost soul reading these posts will not get discouraged on reading the Bible of his/her choice. I think no matter the version, all of us on this board will agree that the the Word is God, whether it be a newer easier to read version or all the way back to the Hebrew and Greek languages.

Wow!, thanks for the history lesson guys. I guess it's whatever you fell comfortable with. I have read and studied the KJV my whole life. I feel a power when I read it I don't get from anywhere else. Like I said I don't know if it's right or wrong, I just know I feel better with the KJV. I suppose when others read the NIV they probably feel the same power. I guess if you just look at it as the word and the word is God and the most important thing is you believe in God and except Jesus Christ as your savior your in the arc of safety. Your relationship with God comes thru many avenues, prayer, study, your life experiences, the people you interact with. No matter which way you get there, there is only one version of God once you are there. I always say this, I may not know much, but I know I am saved.
