(Spartanburg, S.C. - July 6, 2006) Hall of Fame short
track racing hero Mike Duvall was admitted to the
Spartanburg Regional Hospital on Wednesday and is
scheduled to undergo a heart catherization procedure
on Friday morning. Duvall of Cowpens, South Carolina,
who turned 57 years of age today, had felt fatigued
during the past few days and after consulting with his
physician on Wednesday was immediately admitted to the
Heart Center of the Spartanburg Regional Hospital.
"Mike is doing fine right now and is very optimistic
about the procedure and his recovery," stated racing
promoter Ozzie Altman after visiting with Duvall and
his family on Thursday at the Spartanburg hospital.
"Mike asked me to let everyone know that he is in good
hands with the doctors and the Good Lord watching over
him; he and Pam asked for everyone to keep them in
their prayers over the next few days."
Duvall, a former champion of the National Dirt Racing
Association (NDRA) and former winner of the
prestigious World 100 at Eldora Speedway is an
inductee of the National Dirt Late Model Hall of Fame
as well as the Walk of Fame at Lowes Motor Speedway in
Charlotte, North Carolina. During the past four
decades Duvall has won over one thousand racing events
across the nation.
Duvall was scheduled to compete in this Saturday
night's Carolina Clash Racing Series event in
Lancaster, South Carolina but will instead spend the
weekend recovering from the scheduled medical
procedure on Friday. Duvall had competed in a
non-sanctioned event in Madison, North Carolina on
Monday evening and following the race had asked fellow
competitor David Smith of Inman, South Carolina to
assist in getting the team's transporter back to the
race shop in Cowpens stating that he didn't feel well
at the time. After arriving back home Duvall visited
his physician on Wednesday where the problem was
diagnosed and Duvall was immediately admitted to the
Heart Center of the Spartanburg Regional Hospital.
"We are all just very grateful that Mike went to the
doctor in time to have the problem fixed," noted
Altman. "He hasn't felt real chipper during the past
week or so and today in the hospital he looked a lot
better. His color has come back and he's gotten some
rest, we're just all pulling for him. Mike means a lot
to all of us as a racer, but off the track he means
even more due to his leadership role in his faith and
his testimony that has been so important to all of our
lives."
Duvall not only is celebrating his birthday (today) in
the hospital, but he and wife Pam celebrated their
wedding anniversary in the hospital Wednesday night.
"While he's ready for the medical procedure on Friday
Mike is in good spirits and still full of that Duvall
humor of his. He and Pam both were laughing at the
fact that they had to spend the two special days in a
hospital suite, rather than in a romantic hotel suite,
but his pulse rate is close to normal and the doctors
feel good about his ability to get back to his old
self very soon," Altman added, "We just all love Mike
a great deal and want to help he and Pam out anyway we
can. Right now what he needs more than anything else
is rest and no stress, plus everyone's prayers."
