Week 3 Cherokee Speedway, Gaffney S.C. 3-5&6-06
Well the official 2006 O'Reilly's Southern All Star kicked off this past weekend. As the drivers, crews, and sponsors search for wins, prize money, and points we were searching for lost souls, people hurting, and folks to encourage to keep the faith. Saturday we arrived in time to share a view of heaven from a young boy's essay at the drivers meeting. This boy wrote how he viewed heaven would be when he arrived. He talked of millions of file cabinets with everything he had ever done, thought, failed to do, and all his actions. As he read he discovered they were all signed with his own signature. He wept great tears as Jesus appeared in the room. Jesus wept with him and began signing His name overtop of the boys in blood until all the cards were signed. Upon completing every card He said, "It is finished." I quoted John 3:16 and explained how He died for all sin past, present, and future. Forgiveness is available to all but not automatic. Then Robin and I posted many flyers inviting everyone to a Church service on Sunday in the grandstands as we talked with many old friends and acquaintances. We were blessed to fellowship the rest of the afternoon with Mike and Pam Duvall. Mike and Pam also are eager to share Christ with the racing community as they race track to track Mike was able to speak at the first race in South Carolina this year and seven people accepted Christ into their lives. Our time together was encouraging and sweet.
Sunday morning we went back to the track to hang the remaining 75 flyers as over forty drivers arrived to race for 10,000 dollars. Ray Cook, a great Christian driver that travels nationally lead worship by song before the service and brother Dickie, track chaplain, prayed for us. Then Mike Duvall, a legendary late model driver, gave his testimony and pleaded for folks to come to the Savior and life eternal this day. I spoke a message from the Lord on the, "Perfect Gift." We read Ecclesiastes chapter 2 as Solomon searched for the perfect gift or meaning in life. Then we read many passages where God tells us of His gift to this world. John 4:1-10, Acts 2:36-38, Ephesians 2:8-10, and 1 Cor. 7:7. Then I gave David Keen's testimony, how he accepted Christ a year ago at this race in these grandstands. David continued to give the "Perfect Gift" as he led his whole family to the Lord. Then in his ministry of carrying a cross to Washington D.C. and to Florida how he led close to a hundred people to Christ. In December he passed away with a massive heart attack. If you haven't figured it out the "Perfect Gift" is Jesus and when you get Him you won't need batteries, you'll never have to re-charge Him, you won't want to exchange Him, and you won't grow tired of Him, nor grow out of Him. You just want to share Him with others. Many were saved and to God be the Glory great things He has done. Later we shared another verse Romans 5:8 with all the drivers and crewmen. We talked of childhood when we would fall in "puppy love" and pull the petals of daisies and say "She loves me", she loves me not". Oh how it broke our hearts when it was she loves me not. I told of a little girl who did this with God in mind and she was trying to comfort herself in finding out if it was true in a flower. She cried so hard and ran into the house telling her mom, "God doesn't love me". We as adults think that also now and again. But be encouraged, while we were still sinners, Christ loved us so much he died for you. That love never changes or ceased no matter how bad you think you have been. God answered both days' prayers for safety and filled the place with His love.
As you pray remember: Ed--In the Hospital with cancer and further complications. Also lift up Roy as he deals with the trauma of seeing a girl die after hitting his rig head on that he would be drawn to God. Others are Pat, Wanda, Donna, Jeremy, Duayne, Anthony, Tyler, and Mike and Pam. Thanks for holding us up!
